Flutist Chelsea Anderson and pianist Dasha Bukhartseva will join the Delachaise
Ensemble for the final Chamberfest concert, “Music for Piano Flute and Strings,” on June 30 at
2:00 p.m. at Good Luck Cellars, 1025 Goodluck Rd., in in Kilmarnock.
The group of six musicians first will perform Johann Sebastian Bach’s virtuosic Flute
Sonata in E minor. The piece begins slowly and expressively before taking off with the flute
performing at breakneck speed. The sonata becomes serene and rapturous before soaring in
its dizzying finale.
The work will be followed by Bach’s Trio Sonata from The Musical Offering, a collection
of fugues and other pieces based on a single musical theme prepared by Frederick II, the King of
Prussia. The work of sensitivity and light showcases the composer’s dazzling contrapuntal
technique.
Robert Schumann’s Piano Quintet in E flat major concludes the concert. Dedicated to his
wife, Clara Schumann, a virtuoso pianist and composer, this hallmark of the chamber music
canon is noted for its great range of emotions -- high spirited, thoughtful and jubilant.
